About us
Kestrel Freight started with one tractor unit and a driver who was tired of working for other people. He'd spent years on agency work, pulling trailers for firms that never knew his name, and reckoned a customer would rather ring the person actually driving their load.
The first regular work came from a builders' merchant on the edge of Doncaster that needed steel and timber moved to sites around South Yorkshire. Word got round the trade, a second unit followed, and then a curtainsider for pallet work.
We're still small and still owner-run. We work out of a yard close to the M18, a few minutes from the A1, which is about as good a spot as you'll find for getting anywhere in the North and Midlands.
- The office
- Two of us take the calls, plan the runs and do the paperwork. One of us still drives when we're short.
- The drivers
- Most have been with us for years. They know the regular sites, the gate times and who to ask for.
- The fleet
- A handful of tractor units, curtainsiders and a flatbed, serviced locally and kept clean.
Why Kestrel?
Anyone who's driven the A1 or the M18 at dawn will have seen them: a kestrel hanging dead still over the verge while everything else rushes past. Patient, sharp-eyed and always on the job. It seemed a fair thing to aim for.
How we like to work
We'd rather do a few regular customers properly than chase every load going. That means the same drivers on your runs where we can, an honest answer about what we can and can't fit in, and a phone call before a problem becomes your problem.
If that sounds like the kind of haulier you're after, email [email protected] and tell us what you need moving.
